Metrisim Quickstart Tutorial for Trial Users
- Metrisim works best on a desktop / laptop. If you are using a phone, select 'desktop mode' in Chrome, otherwise you won't receive user messages / warning pop-ups.
- Please register and keep a note of the user name, email and password you select. You will need this if you decide to subscribe later on.
- Download the demo setup files - which includes a small subset of respondents from an actual survey - and unzip to a folder on your computer. You can look at them to get a better understanding of the required layout if you wish. Please don’t change the contents, only paid users can upload files other than the demo setup files. Also, keep in mind the names are standard, which makes life easier from project to project, as you can just copy paste into your new project folder whatever setup files you want to keep.
- Upload the setup files to Metrisim after logging in. The minimum files needed by Metrisim to automatically make a conjoint analysis simulator are: attribute_map.csv, control.csv and the pws.csv. Optional files include targets.csv and set.csv. To get more detail on what these are and how to prepare these files, see the setup files help section.
- UPDATE: Metrisim now also includes a design module and an estimation module. The design module only needs an attribute_map.csv file to generate the design, simply click 'Run' to start. To test the estimator module, upload the 'design_text.csv' and 'ratings.csv' from the demo files downloaded in step 3. The reason you need to reupload the design_text.csv after trying the Designer module is that the Designer module creates a new design_text.csv file which is different to the original design used in the demo survey.
- Running scenarios is easy. For now, leave Max Util as the decision rule. Select the dropdowns on the control tab to setup a specific scenario; each dropdown lists the available levels for that attribute. You can also enter prices (within the tested range of prices). If you go beyond this range you will get an error (if you can’t remember what the lowest and highest price was – look at the attribute_map.csv file). Conventionally the first product on the left is your product, and the remainder are competitors, unless you have setup a portfolio of your own products in which case all products are yours.
- To add the partworth charts to a PowerPoint file, select the partworths tab and click run. When Metrisim has finished, view the charts. Now click download to get your PowerPoint slide deck. Notes:
- You can change chart settings by browsing to menu and selecting settings. Remember to save any changes.
- Metrisim assumes it is a 16:9 ratio slide, if not please change your PowerPoint settings. PowerPoint alternatives such as Libresoft should have similar settings.
- To add a scenario to a PowerPoint presentation file, first click add and wait for it to finish adding (it will flash ‘adding...’ twice – once for the scenario image snapshot and once for the pie chart showing the percentage shares). Then click on download. Click delete to delete your PowerPoint file on server and start over. Notes:
- The share % shown at the bottom of the control tab is the share of the total quantity sold in the market going to each competitor. In markets where the quantity bought per buyer varies substantially - such as in CPG - you may wish to make use of the Weights column in the pws.csv file to indicate quantity purchase per period by each buyer. This can be combined with respondent weights for representation.
